Estevan Oriol’s ‘LA Hands’ photograph has become a recurring image for collaboration — a meeting point between photography and the broader creative culture of Los Angeles.
In this work, the image is reinterpreted by renowned tattoo artist and painter Carlos Torres, whose meticulous approach brings a different discipline to the surface of the print. Known internationally for his extraordinary tattoo practice, Torres translates that same precision and control into paint, transforming the photograph into a new visual composition.
The result is a work that bridges multiple artistic traditions rooted in Los Angeles — photography, tattoo culture and contemporary painting — reflecting the shared ecosystem from which these artists emerged.
Each collaboration expands the life of the original image, turning a photographic edition into a singular object shaped by another artist’s hand.
On view now as part of ‘Los Angeles: A Visual Lineage’ at our flagship Mayfair gallery through 24 April 2026. Visitors are welcome during normal gallery hours.
